The inspiration for our new Indie, Indie Twin and Flite videos came from the lifestyle and personality of our customers, our company and our products.

Behind the video direction was our friend Phil Hamer who has done some amazing work with DC, Quiksilver and other product brands.  He also spends much of his time in Africa with non-profits doing documentaries to help children in need. 

We also would like to highlight the great musicians that helped define some of the music diversity that we were aiming for and a special thanks to Steve Salett from The Poison Tree who asked for us to donate a stroller on his behalf.

We are excited and looking forward to launching three new Bumbleride videos this week. They have been a fun project and creative expression for us here at Bumbleride. Each video has a different personality and style just like you.

Bumbleride, Uniquely You!

My fourth and final baby is currently on the eve of taking his very first steps. My guess is that sometime this week it will happen, and hopefully I’ll be present to see him hit this milestone.

And wouldn’t you know it, as my youngest grows increasingly older, our one and only (10 year old) stroller recently died on us. She was a hard workin’ lady, but after four children and hundreds of miles under her wheels, she was tired. Her wheels literally started to fall off her crumb covered body.

Clearly, a mom to four young kids cannot be without a stroller! So I naturally started shopping and doing my research. And to nobody’s surprise at all, my heart landed directly on Bumbleride. Specifically, the Flyer.

When the stroller arrived, I waited for my husband to get home so we could put it together as a team. I do a lot of things well, but baby gear assembly is typically not one of those things. But from start to finish, the stroller only took around 10 minutes to assemble. Super easy, and without an ounce of frustration from either of us, which is always a nice bonus.

Once put together, we took her outside (strollers are female, right?), for her maiden voyage.  And then I heard it, the compliment of all compliments:

“Wow, this thing is actually really nice.” – said my husband.

You guys, he never EVER says nice things about baby gear. My husband complains about ALL baby gear. The way it’s constructed, the lack of functions, everything is always flawed in some way, shape, or form. But in one short walk around the neighborhood (where he stopped every few minutes to test out a feature or make an adjustment), our lady Bumbleride had won him over.

So yeah, it’s a slick ride. But what else makes the Bumbleride Flyer THE stroller to rule above all strollers?

Let’s take a minute to “talk stroller”:

You can can catch up on the details and tech specs here, but I would love just for a few minutes to touch on a few specifics that personally sold me on the Flyer:

1. The handlebar is reversible. Basically, by switching the way the handlebar is orientated (which is so easy to do), baby can either be facing you (oh hello mommy) or facing the world. Additionally, the height of the handle bar is adjustable, making it super nice for anyone of any height to use the stroller (I’m 5’3″ and my husband is 6’3″, so this feature is key).

2. The ride is exceptionally smooth, and it turns on a dime. Because both the front and rear wheels swivel independently, maneuvering the stroller is a cake walk. And on that same note, both front and back wheels can effortlessly be locked and unlocked with the quick release wheel locking system. Making whatever terrain you’re covering a smooth ride and handle.

3. The canopy is generously sized. We took the Flyer with us on vacation to the beach, and because of the large adjustable sun canopy, I was able to keep baby Paul out of the sun at all times.

4. The back seat reclines all the way back, to a flat position. Translated: impromptu naps on the go are not problem at all. And reclining from sitting to laying flat is a very smooth and quite transition if you have a baby that falls asleep in the upright position.

5. It’s compact. While there are smaller/lighter/tighter strollers on the market, in my opinion the Flyer is still very compact, without sacrificing any of the truly wonderful bells and whistles (like my favorite feature, the adjustable footrest). The stroller fits really well in the back of my minivan, with plenty of cargo room to spare. Also worth noting, it only weighs 19 pounds!

Basically, we are in huge love.

Good design + amazing function = one happy set of parents.

They say that it’s hard to improve upon perfection, but the newest Bumbleride Indie stroller has found a way to buck that concept. We have always loved this line of super sturdy and stylish wheels, and with the newest features, there’s even more to get excited about.

 The Indie actually shouldn’t just be called a stroller. It’s more like a stroller system that lets you stroll, jog, run, and most importantly, keep your precious cargo in the comfiest of settings.

I was immediately attracted to its overall look. Sporty and sleek at the same time, especially this new aquamarine shade. But there are so many features that you’ll come to expect as standards for any other stroller to follow because they just make sense and make you (aka, head pusher) the most comfortable.

Let’s start with the set-up. Right out of the box, it’s nice to know that there aren’t too many parts. Just the main body, the wheels and a couple of add-ons like an infant carrier accessory. The visual instructions (admittedly they initially scared me due to its lack of written words) are actually quite clear and will get you putting the stroller together with a few clicks, a turns and forceful pushes.

The ride is incredibly smooth, turning corners easily with its front swivel wheel (that also locks for when you’re jogging) and the cushy adjustable handlebars will suit pushers of any height (my daughter really enjoyed giving her doll a spin around the house).

The level of stroller sophistication you have come to expect from Bumbleride is evident throughout, with a few great updates. It’s still easy to fold down and is lightweight (around 20 lbs), but the entire frame has been redesigned for improved stability, which is always important, especially when you are pushing around littler babies. Plus I like the new footrest for kids which is one of those details you don’t care about until you have one. Plus? Good way to catch all those goldfish they’ll be dropping.

I also love that the stroller has become a little more eco-friendly, with all fabric being comprised of 50% recycled polyester and 50% bamboo charcoal.

The stroller’s canopy has an SPF of 45, which doesn’t get you out of putting on sunscreen, but it does add extra protection on those super sunny days. Now I did find the huge canopy a little tough to pull down; it felt at times to me like something was stuck. But I think it’s just designed to withstand the 8,405 times your kid grabs it and pulls it up and down herself.

The 5-point harness has also been redesigned to offer various points of buckling and unbuckling to make it easier to get your baby out with one hand– a feature that’s tormented so many of us in other strollers so I’m glad this one works easily.

While all these updates are grand, the new colors like Aquamarine, Green Papyrus and Cayenne Red will make you want to get one in every color. Well, not really, but it’ll be fun to choose from all the options.

Is the stroller pricey? Well, it’s not in Bugaboo territory, but the $500+ price tag certainly makes it an investment beyond the mass market brands. That being said, you definitely get what you pay for. While this probably isn’t the stroller that you’ll keep in the back of your car for grocery shopping and general errands, it’s the one that could certainly be the most reliable and robust of your stroller inventory, and will log hundreds of miles of good use over the years it will last (up to 45 lbs).

Just watch out: introducing this awesome Bumbleride Indie to your baby from the beginning will set them up to expect any and all future rides to be in the lap of luxury. -Jeana

 More changes for the Bumbleride collection of strollers and this time we are talking about the Flite. This is Bumbleride’s lightweight, umbrella-fold stroller that is great for travel and on-the-go.

For 2013, the Flite has a few changes that are important to know:

• Since we all know canopy size matters, we are happy that the Flite canopy is even larger this year.
• The harness has been modified with a harder-to-do buckle and breakaway straps so that it prevents entanglement.
• New colors
• The Flite is only available in the Natural Fabric.

Let’s start with the new fabrics. The “Movement” and “Classic” fabrics of yesteryear are out and the Natural fabric is in. The Flite is only available in the eco-friendly fabrics that consist of a bamboo, nylon blend interior to wick away moisture from the little rider’s body and recycled polyester blend exterior.

SEAT:

The seat is roomy and accommodates up to 50 lbs so even your bigger kids can hop in for a ride when their legs get tired. It measures 13″ wide, with a 20″ seat back and a measurement of 27″ from seat to canopy. It’s a great seat for those taller toddlers!

The adjustable, padded 5-point harness has been modified for 2013 with a stronger center release button and 3 to 5 point breakaway shoulder straps which help with a faster connection and prevents entanglement. While the harness does “break away” (which can be annoying on some strollers!), we are happy that the Indie’s harness does stay clipped together when we want it to so that it doesn’t come apart every time we take our child out of the seat. The Flite has an adjustable footrest with two positions – up and down.

The seat has a deep recline that is easy to do with the one-hand strap system. (You need two hands to put the seat back up though!) Even though we’d recommend this seat for 3+ months, you can still use it with a newborn with the universal car seat adapter.

STORAGE:

Typical for an umbrella stroller, the Flite has a very small basket. You definitely won’t get a diaper bag in there but it can hold a few baby essentials. There is also a small zipper pocket on the back of the canopy.

There are no baby or parent trays or even a bumper bar on the Flite but there is the Bumbleride cup holder that can attach to either side of the stroller. There is also a great accessory for baby called the Snack Pack that is sold separately. The Snack Pack is a soft pouch that zips closed and is divided in two compartments inside. NOTE: The Snack Pack has to be removed to fold the Flite.

HANDLE:

The ergonomic handles are nonadjustable but they are higher at 40″ from ground to handle. Since they are separate handles, you will probably need two hands to maneuver the stroller easily.

CANOPY:

Probably to help the Flite fit in better with the rest of the collection, they have made the Flite canopy even bigger for 2013. Woot! Woot! Size matters with a canopy, people! It’s a good size canopy with built in 45-SPF and a  darker mesh peek-a-boo window to see in at your little rider.

WHEELS:

The Flite rolls on four sets of 5 1/2″ wheels and a dual front and rear suspension system that gives baby a smooth ride. Even though the front swivel wheels can be locked straight to handle grass and a bit bumpier terrain a little better, this is an umbrella stroller that is meant to perform best on smooth surfaces. The rear wheels have individual locks on each wheel to lock the stroller in place.

When we travel, light strollers are our BFF. That’s why we love that the Flite is only 14 lbs, and with the carry handle and shoulder strap, it’s a great travel companion.

The Flite has a two-handed fold that is rather easy to do. Pull up on the two release triggers just below each handlebar. Then lift up on the rear step with your foot to release the rear support bars, pop up that support bar between the handlebars and push it forward until the stroller folds down to the ground. We love that the Flite has an automatic lock to keep the stroller locked while transporting! The folded stroller is very compact and can fit in the tightest of trunks and spaces.

While many other lightweight umbrella strollers don’t accommodate an infant car seat, the Flite accepts almost all infant car seats with the included car seat adapter to make it a lightweight travel system. It accepts Graco, Chicco, Britax, Peg Perego, Combi and Baby Trend infant car seats but check Bumbleride’s website just to make sure yours is compatible. NOTE: The car seat adapter must be removed to fold the stroller.

Overall, the Bumbleride Flite is a lightweight stroller that is great for travel and does everything but all-terrain and jogging. This year we love that they made the canopy bigger and the buckle harder to escape. If you are looking for a beautiful, lightweight, umbrella stroller that is stocked with style and features, then the Flite might be the stroller for you.
