Tiny Travels – La Jolla, CA – Chrissy Powers & Isobel Benesch

May 5th, 2016

We’ve partnered with Chrissy Powers and Isobel Benesch from belandbeau.com on a Tiny Travels series starting in La Jolla, CA. Follow their local travels and helpful tips! Enter to win your own Indie in their giveaway here, https://www.instagram.com/p/BE9Qim2Tg5f/?taken-by=chrissyjpowers. Ends 5/9.

“Welcome to Tiny Travels! I’m so excited about this new series because it combines two things I’m very passionate about: motherhood and travel. Before children I traveled all over; traveling opened the world up to me in a way I never knew existed. Relishing in the beauty of new places and cultures is something I want to pass on to my sons. I know traveling and children don’t always go together…I felt landlocked after I had my first son Waylon. However, once I started to put my cares aside (like how I look in public when he melts down…the fear of traffic…etc), I began to have fun no matter how challenging it was. My friend Isobel from belandbeau.com and I bonded over our love for travel and exploring with our boys; it really was only a matter of time before we teamed up.

Our hope is that Tiny Travels inspires you to see the world, explore your backyard, city or town and enjoy new experiences with your children no matter how hectic it may be. “- Chrissy and Isobel

Where They Went:

  • Juice Crafters
  • Tide Pools
  • Cuvier Park
  • The Children’s Pool
  • The Cave Store
  • Sunny Jim’s Cave

La Jolla Travel Tips:

Parking can be tough so find a spot and then bring your stroller/scooter/carrier…. If you walk all the way along the coast from the Tide Pools to the Cave Store it can be a long walk for little ones so make sure to bring snacks.

Places to Eat:

Cuvier Park and Ellen Browning Scripps are great picnic spots along the ocean. If you want to grab a bite to eat in town, we recommend Burger Lounge or Puesta.

Also Check Out:

  • Fly at Kite at Ellen Browning Scripps park
  • Bark at the Sea Lions at La Jolla Cove
  • Museum of Contemporary Art

5 Ways Bumbleride Makes Life Easier For The Active Mom – City Girl Gone Mom

May 5th, 2016

“Lets face it, sticking to a work out schedule can be hard for anyone.  Add four kids, two dogs and a bad back to the mix, and it almost feels impossible.  The larger my world has become, the harder it is to exercise.  However, It’s time I find ways to burn some extra calories now that my seven month old is finally giving me a good night’s rest.

Thanks to Brody’s new ride, Indie by Bumbleride, there’s finally some light at the end of my chaotic tunnel.  I kid you not, the all terrain jogger has momma moving mountains… Okay, maybe not mountains, but I am certainly moving.

LIGHTWEIGHT

Bumbleride’s Indie all terrain jogger has set itself apart from the rest with its compact, lightweight frame.  I can honestly say in the nine years that I have pushing strollers, this jogger has to be the lightest.  It feels like I am pushing air, even on the toughest roads.  It has the smoothest push out of all the strollers I have had.  Dad agrees too.  With Southern California being very hilly, this lightweight jogger has been easy on my back.  I feel minimal pressure where it typically hurts the most when climbing those hills.  The 12 inch air-filled tires are just the right size.  And having all-wheel suspension makes this ride the Porsche of all joggers.

MATERIALS MATTER

Even in the midst of a chaotic life, we are no strangers to lessening our carbon footprint on the planet.  We did that by having the first dental practice in San Diego that is certified Green.  I was happy to learn that Bumbleride cares about Mother Earth just like we do.  Their fabrics feature a 100% recycled polyester (rPET recycled post consumer water bottles).  This company is devoted to durability, safety and function, while simultaneously caring about the environment.  As a mom who cares about our planet, I feel great knowing that this is my go-to stroller.  It also gives me another opportunity to chat with my older kids about  why they, too, should care.”

Conclusion

After two weeks with the Indie, I can confidently say that from birth to the toddler years, the Indie is all you need.  I have thoroughly enjoyed this stroller, mainly because we are a very active family, and it was more than compatible with all of our outings. Whether trekking to and from Petco Park, onto the beach, or exercising on rocks and pavement, this is now our go-to stroller.  I like to refer to it as the “perfect Schaffer lifestyle stroller”.  Nine years ago when Jackson was born, we loved the Queen B Pram by Bumbleride.  I am grateful to have had the chance to do this four times now — with my brood and Bumbleride.

Best Baby Gear for Multiples – Bump Club and Beyond

April 26th, 2016

BCB
BCB Founder and CEO, Lindsay Pinchuk, shared must-have baby gear for multiples with Demetrius Ivory, WGN-TV meteorologist, on-air in Chicago today! Ivory and his wife, fellow WGN news anchor, Erin McElroy welcomed twins Hadley and Harlow earlier this winter.

Must-have baby gear for multiples on-the-go:

3. Bumbleride Indie Twin, $729: There are MANY stroller options for twins. For this one we turned to our friend and baby gear expert, The BabyGuy. His recommendation for a stroller system for twins: The Bumbleride Indie Twin (with two Cyber Aton 2 car seats.) The side by side option makes for easy access to the babies. Plus, the footprint is small enough that it will fit through the door, but not as cumbersome as many front/back stroller options provide.

Meet Speed, By Bumbleride

Guest Blogpost by Jacqui Saldana

I have teamed up with Bumbleride to help them celebrate the release of a new addition to their stroller line up. The newest set of wheels is a designated running stroller so aptly named Speed. Speed features a thousand cool things, a few of which I have highlighted below. I was lucky enough to be one of the first to hit the pavement with Speed. When I signed up for my  5K last month I was in need of a stroller equipped for running/jogging. I actually reached out to Bumbleride to see if I could test out Speed and was seriously delighted when they agreed! Being a momma of two, I know buying baby gear can be a bit overwhelming. Which is why I wanted to share with you what I loved most about Bumbleride’s Speed. Hopefully this post is coming to you at the right time, or can be passed on to someone who is in the market for a pretty bad ass stroller.

Let me first start this all off by saying I am in no way a professional runner. I’d say I’m more of a professional walker who busts into a jog when a good song comes on through my headphones. I do love a good running stroller, but the Bumbleride Speed sold me more on its lightweight and easy one step fold. Anything that adds ease into my daily life gets a gold star.

My favorites of Speed and a few photos below.

The thing I noticed right away was the smooth push Speed offers. I know what you are thinking! A stroller is a stroller. But really, Speed was designed to take on all terrain which I am guessing is why the push is so soft. I was thrilled about this mostly because Mila is still really tiny. Though we 100% got clearance from her pediatrician on her being able to join me on a jog. I was still worried about her in there. With very little neck control I didn’t want her flopping around. Through out the smooth ride Mila was able to enjoy herself as best a baby can. She slept every. single. time. we used this stroller.

Jog
We were able to adjust the 5 point harness snug to fit her small body. (she currently is 11 pounds 25 inches) And with just one click the straps released and we could pick up Mila from the stroller pretty easily. Easy. Easy. There is theme. I love things that are just simple. 1, 2, done.

When we first got to see Speed it was at Bumbleride HQ. One of the first things that was shown to us was the handle bar. “Feel the handlebar!” At first I didn’t think much of it. But after using it in my race I found its smooth rubber grip to be extremely helpful. Of course, now I can’t remember what exactly that rubber is called. I do know it is PVC free and the entire handlebar adjusts up or down. Which is SUPER awesome since I’m tall.

IMG_2286

Speed has an oversized sun canopy that offers SPF 45. If it doesn’t cover enough of baby, you can extend it further. I love this photo because one, Mila’s tiny feet kicking out. And two, shortly after this photo was taken Mila spit her pacifier out and it landed on the ground. Dan tried to grab it quick but kicked it and the pacifier fell into the ocean. We both started to laugh, then Mila started to cry so we packed up and left. It was pretty funny.

Lesson learned.

Pack more than one pacifier.

Even though I mentioned my favorite thing about this stroller was its one step fold…I lied. My favorite is actually the bell that comes installed on the side of the handlebar! I rang that puppy 24/7. It came in handy during my race. We also walked to grab ice cream and when the ice cream parlor called out our number for next to order…I rang my bell. I love that thing!

Who looks better. Guy who has great running form OR Mom who has terrible running form, but one seriously cool stroller? 😉

In all honesty Speed is pretty great. Aside from what makes it a great stroller it did something more for me. It made me fall back in love with running and working out. I think that is what really makes this a great piece. The comfort and functionality of Speed inspires me to get outside and do something healthy for myself. I kind of loved that Mila was lulled to sleep every time we used this stroller. It allowed me to stay out a bit longer. Work out a bit harder. It isn’t always easy finding baby gear that fits the bill for both mom and baby. I am thrilled to report that this stroller exceeds in all areas. Most importantly in helping mommas have the freedom they need to get out, work out and be the best for their baby!

Best Stroller

A truly organic stroller doesn’t exist (yet!), but some manufacturers, like Bumbleride, come pretty close. New for 2016 is Speed, their first-ever jogging stroller. As with all Bumbleride rides, this one features feel-good fabrics that keep plastic bottles out of landfills, dyed in bright, vibrant colors via a process that conserves 25 to 40 gallons of water per stroller. Whether you’re training for a 5K or just doing errands around town, the stroller’s three-speed steering lets you run at your own pace.”

Celebrate Earth Day April 22nd – 9 Easy Ways For Kids To Rise Above Plastics

April 13th, 2016

beachcleanup

  • Avoid or refuse purchasing items packaged in plastic. Get the kids involved to help look for produce and grocery items that aren’t over-packaged. Plastic inside of plastic? No thanks!

  • Use cloth or re-usable shopping bags. Keeping a bag with you or in your car/purse/or diaper bag is a great way to make sure you use your bags.  One of our favorite companies that makes these is ChicoBag. Some models even fold up into their own pocket to fit in your hand!
    OSBGM-2OSBGM-1
  • Forget bottled water. Plastic bottles are one of the most common pieces of trash found around the world. Carry a reusable canteen wherever you go. Try hooking it onto your stroller if it’s not too heavy or large. Make sure to get one or two for the each of the kids too! Our favorite reusable beverage containers are from Hydroflask and Klean Kanteen .

  • Give up gum. Did you know many types of gum are synthetic and include plastics? Who wants to chew on plastic?

  • Bring a reusable mug when you order hot cocoa, coffee or tea. Office favorites include this kid’s Klean Kanteen and this cup from Hydroflask with a silicone lid. Both work great for everyday, hot or cold.
    KleanKanteen hydro-flask-p16-pacific_2
  • Skip the straw. Straws are almost the #1 piece of trash on beaches, especially near resorts or hotels. If your kids love straws, consider Silikids silicone straw with lid or Simple Straws made of glass or metal.

  • Recycle. If you have to use plastic, try to choose #1 (PETE) or #2 (HDPE) which are the most commonly recycled plastics. Ask you child to help sort which items can be recycled and which are trash or compost.

  • Reusable containers. Our office favorite containers are from Wean Green. We love their Kitchen Set. They are made with tempered glass that is microwave safe and easy to clean.
    WeanGreen
  • Volunteer at a beach cleanup. Most plastics last forever so bring the kids to the beach and help teach them about the responsibility of keeping the beach and our oceans clean for  future generations and how storm drains/urban runoff bring trash and plastic to the beach. This is a favorite among our staff and company. We aim to host a local beach cleanup monthly. Look for a cleanup near you in the US through your local Surfrider Foundation chapter or in Canada, your nearest Shoreline Cleanup or in Hawaii or New Zealand, your nearest Sustainable Coastlines event.

An Interview With Bumbleride CEO Matt Reichardt: Meet The Speed Jogging Stroller & More! | Spilling The beans Blog By Magic Beans

April 6th, 2016

An Interview With Bumbleride CEO Matt Reichardt: Meet The Speed Jogging Stroller & More!

1200x900_Speed_CampGreen

Excerpt from Spilling the beans blog by Magic Beans (an authorized Bumbleride retailer)-

“Since 2004, Bumbleride co-founders Matt and Emily Reichardt have been designing strollers “as gear, purpose-built to perform whether taking your little ones on a trail run or navigating the local farmers market.” This year’s new debuts are even more outdoorsy than ever: Bumbleride has just introduced their first designated running stroller, and some eco-friendly new fabrics, too. In this interview with Matt, we got the inside scoop on how they came up with these new advances, and how they’ll enhance your life as an active parent.

Want to see the Speed and the rest of the Bumbleride collection in person (and chat with the Bumbleride crew about why their strollers are so cool)? They’ll be at Drool Baby Expo tomorrow, April 7 – if you don’t have your tickets, get them now!

Q: So, the marquee event for Bumbleride this year appears to be the Speed Jogging Stroller! We’re so excited to add it to our selection. I know that the Indie wasn’t designed as a jogger but was often used as one – how does the Speed improve on Indie for running parents?
I think they definitely serve different needs, Indie has always been a great option for urban strolling, all-terrain, and light jogging.  For running parents moving at a faster pace, Speed has larger 16” back wheels for better control, a longer wheel base for better stability, and the new Speed 3 steering system, which gives more options on different terrains.

Q: The central feature of the Speed is the 3-speed steering system – can you tell me a bit about how this idea was developed, how it works, and why it will be terrific for parents?

The idea was developed from observations of how parents jog with strollers and from feedback from our customers.  Basically there are three scenarios runners find themselves in:  1. Running at a fast pace on open road, boardwalk or somewhere that you don’t really need to steer.   2. Jogging anywhere else whether it be a park, trail, urban community where turning is required.  3. Everyday use walking where 360 degree swiveling is preferred.  The problem that we found for parents is that a fixed wheel option is very limiting and not always convenient, and the swiveling option is not safe for jogging.

In response to this issue, the Speed 3 steering has 3 positions: fully locked with tracking for open road running,  a 30 degree swivel, and a 360 degree swivel.  The 30 degree swivel addresses the problem for joggers, allowing sufficient turning radius to steer while jogging but prevents the wheel from rotating past 45 degrees where the stroller can become unstable. It’s much like the way the steering is restricted on toddler balance bikes!

Q: What kind of family do you picture using the Speed stroller, and in what environments?

I would say families where either one or both parents are joggers, or like to get out on walks for exercise.  Speed is designed for all terrain, so everything from city urban living to rural terrain.  Because of its versatility, it also can be the only stroller an active family needs.

Q: What kind of response have you gotten about the Speed stroller so far?

I think a lot of our customers see it as an obvious addition to Bumbleride’s line up, and a much needed category.  We have also seen excitement around the Speed 3 steering and our fabric story.”…..
